Backgammon Social Club is heading downtown. The Downtown Double takes over the Carousel Bar inside the Plaza Hotel & Casino on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. It is social backgammon under the lights of downtown Las Vegas: cocktails, conversation, and boards going all night—no entry fee, no clocks, and no tournament bracket.

A bar, a board, and whoever shows up
The Carousel Bar sits in the middle of the Plaza’s casino floor, which makes it an easy landmark and a comfortable place to sit down with a stranger and play a few games. Boards spread across the bar tables, players rotate as the evening goes on, and nobody is keeping a standings sheet.
Bring your own board if you have one—more boards means more games running at once. If you arrive without one, or without anybody to play, say so at the door: pairing people up is part of the point.
New to the game? Come anyway
First-time players are genuinely welcome. Backgammon takes minutes to learn and a lifetime to master, and a relaxed bar night is a far better classroom than a rated tournament room. Expect regulars happy to walk you through the opening rolls, the doubling cube, and why a single checker sitting alone is such a tempting target.
