Edward Ahola returns to the Boston Open with an achievement nobody else in this year's Main field can claim: he won this exact championship last year. The Massachusetts player, published as Ed Ahola in the USBGF results, topped the 67-player 2025 Open ahead of runner-up John Leonard.
The title was won at the Newton edition of the tournament. This year's event is at The Verve Hotel in Natick, with the Open scheduled to begin on Friday, October 30. Ahola is already on the official registration list, and his first results of the week have made his return more interesting.
Two wins before the title defence
In the eight-player Super Jackpot, Ahola defeated Roberto Litzenberger in Round 1 and John Veltri in the semi-final. That put him at 2–0 and into the 15-point final against Abe Mosseri. The final remained pending at our October 29 check. Those two wins are confirmed; another title is still to be decided.
His recent results also include a joint third-to-fifth finish in the 51-player Open at September's Music City tournament in Nashville. Alongside last year's Boston win, that provides specific context for his Main valuation: a title at this event, a recent Open finish and fresh wins this week.
A premium pick at 11,500 FC
Ahola's revised Main price is 11,500 Fantasy Credits, up from 8,000. The revision adds 1,000 FC for his two Super Jackpot wins, 1,000 for reaching its final and a separate 1,500 FC premium for being the defending Boston Open champion. His market card now shows both the Super Jackpot player badge and the 2025 Boston Open champion badge.
That price places him in the premium tier and makes him a substantial share of a six-player, 50,000 FC roster. Choosing him as captain would multiply the Main points he earns by 1.5, so the decision is how much of the budget to commit to a player with both local title history and current form. The Super Jackpot points he has already earned do not transfer into the Main contest.
The next step is a new competition. Boston's MoreSwiss Open keeps players in until their third loss, and last year's result gives no player a head start in this year's draw. Ahola begins his defence with a proven event record, a confirmed registration and two wins already on this week's boards.
