If the phrase "backgammon event" makes you picture silent rows of tables and a tournament director calling rounds, Rolls After Dark is not that. Backgammon Social Club's Henderson social on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at Citrus Grill & Lounge is a lounge night with boards on the tables. Doors open at 6:00 PM, entry is a free RSVP, and the room is 21+.
You do not need to know how to play
Complimentary beginner lessons are part of the official program. Backgammon is unusually kind to newcomers: the rules take about fifteen minutes, and dice keep every game competitive while your judgement catches up. Expect a short walkthrough of moving checkers, hitting blots, re-entering from the bar, bearing off, and what the doubling cube actually does.
You do not need to bring a board
Boards are welcome — the listing encourages you to bring your own if you have one — but they are not a requirement. Turn up empty-handed and you will still get games.
What the evening feels like
Casual, all skill levels, no serious tournament pressure. Strong players and complete beginners share the same room, and matches happen because two people agreed to play, not because a bracket said so. Food and drinks are available for purchase, shisha is on offer, and there is video poker in the venue if you want a break from the dice.
Practical table etiquette
None of the following are house rules from the organizer — they are simply the courtesies that make casual backgammon pleasant, and they travel well to any club night.
- Agree the match length before you start — three or five points suits a social evening.
- Roll both dice inside your right-hand side of the board and leave them where they land.
- Complete your move, then pick up your dice; picking them up ends your turn.
- Announce a double clearly and turn the cube so both players can see it.
- Keep drinks off the playing surface.
- Offer a beginner the choice of playing with or without the cube.
- When a stronger player teaches you something mid-game, thank them and finish the match — the lesson is the point.
Money and age
RSVP is free at $0, and the venue asks for a suggested minimum spend of $25 per person — treat that as your food-and-drinks budget for the night. The event is 21+, so bring photo ID.
How to RSVP
Reserve your free spot on the official Backgammon Social Club event page linked below, then show up around 6:00 PM if you want a lesson before the tables get busy. Bring a friend. Backgammon is a better game when the person across the board is someone you actually like.
